Competition Team is open to most students in the Studio. It is for the student who wants to make Dance their primary extra-curricular activity. Our dancers consistently win Titles, Top Awards, Judges Awards and cash awards at competitions throughout New England. We fully embrace a sense of team and instill values of team work, commitment, self motivation and giving back to the community.
Our competitive dancers have gone on to perform in Disney, dance for the Boston Celtics, cheer for the New England Patriots, win National Collegiate Dance Team Championships, Teach for UDA, Coach or Assistant Coach College Dance Teams and more!
How to Join?
New students typically complete 1 year of dance at GDA to be eligible for Competition Team. Current dancers can let their teacher know or parents, you can send us an email. If you already dance competitively and are interested in GDA, contact the office and let us know. There are required summer dance hours too. Ask the office for a schedule.
We are available to answer your questions anytime.
How much is tuition?
Competition tuition is the same as recreational tuition.
Is Ballet Required?
Ballet technique is the foundation for all styles of dance. Competitive dancers are REQUIRED to take a ballet technique class AND a ballet dance class. We are one of the few studios that also compete our ballet dances.
Are there team fees or fees for extra rehearsals?
We do not charge a team fee and there is no fee for any extra rehearsals prior to competition.
Do competitive dancers dance all year?
Competitive dancers must complete summer dance hours in order to keep their spot on the team. The schedule is flexible so dancers can still enjoy vacation.
ELITE TRAVEL TEAM
The Elite Travel Competition Team goes on to perform in places like Walt Disney World, Cruise Ships, Hershey Park, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, etc. Only those students who are current Competition Team members will be considered for this prestigious group. We have given over 200 dancers the opportunity to dance in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. In 2011, dancers performed on Royal Caribbean’s Explorer of the Seas cruise ship while enroute to Bermuda. In 2017 we danced in Walt Disney World with over 50 dancers.
OTHER DANCE OPPORTUNITIES
We have performed in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, at the Worcester Tornados, Hershey Park and on Royal Caribbean International’s Explorer of the Seas while cruising to Bermuda. We also give back to the community by dancing at nursing homes, competing to support organizations with prize money and charity events like the UMass Cancer Walk. We also support Sophia’s FUNd and the Jacob Boudreau Scholarship Fund.
Throughout the year we will bring in Master Teachers from all over New England. Master Teachers bring cutting edge choreography, techniques and skills. This is optional but recommended for students to progress to their very best. Master Class fees vary based on the teacher.
