[fblike] Congratulations Miss Mazie (GDA ’13) on Graduating from Dean College this past weekend with a 4.0 grade point average!

We asked her to send us some thoughts as she was getting ready to graduate. She wrote…

After four amazing years I am finally graduating from Dean College with my bachelors degree in fine arts. When they say college flys by, they weren’t lying. I remember my first day of freshman year like it was yesterday. My very first dance class at Dean changed my entire life. It was a whole new world that I was just diving into and I was beyond nervous.

Throughout my four years I have been a captain and the Vice President of the dance team and have been a part of every single show that Dean College has put on. Also I choreographed and staged my very first piece which was probably the most terrifying thing.

I wish I could put into words how much I’ve learned over these four years but let me just say Dean taught me so much about the arts and about myself as a person. Balancing a job, multiple rehearsals every night and studying definitely made me mature quickly when I came to Dean and made me more motivated than ever.

Dean has given me amazing performance opportunities like performing at the Joyce Theatre in New York City and at Boston University for ACDA. I’ve had the privilege to learn from professors who have been on broadway, worked with Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake, have been the head ballerina at the Boston Ballet and have been in movies. Dean has prepared me for the real world and I couldn’t be more excited/nervous.

But I am proud to say that I will be graduating college dancing for the Boston Celtics (my dream job), a paid dance company and a part time job. I couldn’t ask for a more amazing four years. (Mazie’s Celtics Dancer Profile Here)

If there’s one thing I would tell a student heading to college it is to never give up on your dreams. If you truly want it, you can do it!

You have worked so hard from your time at GDA until your graduation day at Dean. YOU DID IT!! You deserve every bit of your success. We are so proud of you Mazie! Congratulations!
